about jenica

your fearless, overly enthusiastic leader

Jenica is a graduate student currently pursuing a PhD in Writing Studies and a PhD Minor in Cinema Studies. She has a B.A. in English and Creative Writing from the University of Arizona and an M.A. in English Literature from UIUC. She studies lots of things, like composition pedagogy, film production, multimedia composing processes, and arts-based research methodology.

Officially, her favorite movies are Vertigo, Rear Window, The Illusionist, and The Shining. She realizes this is a strange and mildly eclectic list. But she’s not fooling anyone: it’s common knowledge that her all-time favorite is and always will be Star Wars. Also common knowledge is her unfailing belief that everything you need to know about moviemaking, modern Hollywood, and perhaps even life in general can be learned from watching and studying Star Wars. True story.

When she’s not inspiring young minds or working on (finally) writing her dissertation, Jenica enjoys watching movies and TV, gaming, chatting with friends, painting, swimming, and, apparently, writing in the third person.

Jenica is teaching 1 section of ART 250 (Writing with Video) in Spring 2011 and 1 section of RHET 233 (Special Topic: “Composing + Cinema”).

Her email address is roberts8@illinois.edu and her office hours are by appointment. She also doesn’t answer email between 9:00 pm and 9:00 am, but tries to be quick with responses any other time.

    Yay Star Wars!

Im more of the old Starwars type, the new ones aren’t attractive for me (except Natalie Portman).

Who is your favorite SW character? I like Wedge Antilles, the x-wing fighter pilot you only get to see like twice in the 3 movies combined.
Luke “Wedge pull out! Yyou can’t do anymore good back there!”
    Wedge “Sorry!”

Wedge “Red two standing by…lock S-foils in attack position.”

    Oh Yeah, SW ftw
